Description
Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.
Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

The intensive course I completed with Maximo Nivel in Costa Rica proved to be an excellent experience, which was due in large part to my humorous, patient, and extremely knowledgeable instructor Philip Raymond. We were provided not only with crucial methods and tactics to use in the classroom for any level of student, but also with the opportunity to practice teaching our own classes of beginner and advanced students. It was incredible to discover that we could teach English to people whose native language we do not speak. The source materials given to us were very helpful and they will continue to be in my future teaching experiences. Phil gave us plenty of constructive feedback after our practice lessons which invariably helped us to correct and build on our mistakes, as well as focus on our strengths. I feel proud and confident, as I am sure my classmates and other graduates of this course do, to travel anywhere in the world and teach English. Not only do I have a certified TEFL degree, I receive wonderful references and assistance finding jobs that continues to this day. Plus I can always count on Phil for tips and help finding work even in the remotest corners of the world.
