Description
Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.
Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

I participated in the hybrid program. As an experienced teacher, it was the perfect fit. I was lucky to have Audra not only as my hybrid mentor, but as my instructor in Manuel Antonio. Together we were flexible with each other’s schedules when meeting up for the online portion of the course.
Class in Manuel Antonio was great on many levels. First Audra, our instructor, was informative, energetic, and a great teacher role model. As an experienced teacher, I found her instruction reflective of the way she wanted us to teach; in place of preaching, she demonstrated. Second, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed whether that meant printing our documents, giving directions to the best place to eat, or simply caring about how we were handling the work load. Lastly, Manuel Antonio is a beautiful place full of amazing people and a rich culture. If one has the time to explore, it is the perfect place- although, I might recommend a cooler time of year.
