Description

Maximo Nivel’s award winning TEFL Certification Program is a thorough and practical introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). During the 150-hours 4-week course, you become familiar with the principles of successful ESL teaching and you develop real-world skills to be an effective English teacher. The TEFL program focuses on practical teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. The training program includes 100 hours of in-class instruction, 35 hours of required reading and written assignments, and 15 hours of observation and practical teaching.

Practical teaching is the heart of the TEFL Certification program. You begin teaching mini-lessons in week 1 and continue throughout the course. There are also various, short workshops where you practice specific teaching techniques and strategies. The TEFL course also includes 6 hours where you observe experienced ESL teachers leading their classes. In the final week of the TEFL course, you take over a live English class with real, non-native students, and teach 60-minute lessons for 5 days, during which you are observed and coached by your TEFL Trainer. In all you will have 15 hours of practical teaching and observation during the course.

This course is amazing!!! I just finished four weeks of TEFL and I feel super ready to teach! My TEFL Trainer, Sean, was amazing! He was such an inspiring person, always available and so knowledgeable. I felt very supported throughout the course, even when the workload got heavier! It is so inspiring to see how much fun it is to learn, and applying all those techniques on real students is the best feeling ever!

I took the TEFL course at Maximo Nivel, Antigua, Guatemala. It was phenomenal. The teacher was Karen Wilke. I was a non esl teacher for 20+ years and I can honestly say she is such a gifted teacher. She made all the topics fun and modeled the strategies. She was super encouraging but the course requires a lot. She’s there to help you along the way. It was one of the most rewarding and yet challenging things I’ve done in a while. I’m looking forward to using all that I learned.

I took the course for my TEFL certificate through Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica and loved it! I was nervous at first because i have never traveled out of the country alone but i am very glad i took the risk! The instructor was fantastic and i learned so much each day. I recommend to people of all ages!

Everything about my experience in Antigua earning my TEFL certification with Maximo Nivel was amazing. The instructor Karen is INCREDIBLE. She is so knowledgeable about her field, but it’s her personality that shines — she is so warm and caring, and she gives one hundred percent to her TEFL students every single day. It’s incredible how much effort she puts into leading the course — which made us give one hundred percent effort every day, too. The course is definitely challenging, and you’ll feel so accomplished and confident afterward. The best part is graduating with a group of TEFL students who have become your family. The staff, facilities, and programs at Maximo are all excellent, and it’s a great value for your money. I highly recommend this course.

I thought about TEFL as a tool to get a job abroad and reach that shiny dream of work and travel at the same time. I didn’t think that taking the course would also be a hell of an experience itself. I fell in love with the program, the people, the methodology, every little detail in the course was a display o the huge effort the institution did to make us feel special and welcome. I feel 100% equipped to get a job abroad and live the dream!

The TEFL Program through Maximo Nivel truly changed my life! I had the best and most challenging month learning about myself, the ability and power of education and created life long memories in the gorgeous city of Antigua. Our instructor Karen was the absolute motivation, inspiration and passion behind it all. She made every day worth while to come to class and was the best and most amazing person I could have ever imagined to lead the way during such an eventful, exciting and new time in our lives. Her creativity and dedication to teaching was truly a gift to not only our classroom but also my personal life. Maximo Nivel was organized and amazing and created a home away from home for me every step of the way. Absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone considering taking the leap of faith!

Taking the TEFL Certificate has been one of the best decisions that I have made in my adult life. I just wish I had taken it 10 years ago. Learning about the teaching methodology, and the different types of learners so it becomes easier to adapt to their speed has opened my eyes, and it is a lesson that I will keep in my teaching life as long as I live. Thanks to Karen, she has been an amazing trainer, always eager to introduce us to the teaching world, and to be open-minded to understand all the information that is given in the 4 weeks intense course. Thanks to the whole Maximo Nivel crew for making this whole time so enjoyable and valuable.

My review of the school is as follows.

This is a big company that offers programs in several countries. When you are more than a 10 person employer it is harder to impact culture. Having said that, there is no need. The culture I experienced while enrolling a friend in English Basic and then getting more involved as a

Tefol teacher applicant for the program was more than adequate.

Students came first! Folks were helpful, and authentic. No company is perfect but this one I feel is as good as it gets.

My review of my teacher for the TEFOL program is as follows.

If Karen Wilkie was a basketball tryout all the coaches would say the same thing. You can’t teach “tall”. In the same vein you can’t create personality. To have empathy, to be non judgemental, to be enthusiastic

and to genuinely care are qualities that some folks are gifted with. Karen has dedicated her spirit to teaching and the winners are the students and

Maximo Nivel.

We all have developmental areas. We all have weaknesses. Karen’s strengths make any reference to those areas irrelevant. She is gifted. We’re she a basketball player,she would be seven feet tall. You can’t teach that! Thank you Karen.

I would definitely recommend this program! If you are in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, Audra will give you all the information you need to be a successful teacher in a fun way which makes the long days in class seem pretty short. The course is more time consuming than I originally thought however you do have time to enjoy the beaches and even surrounding towns if you like.

Instructor was AMAZING!! Audra is the best, super fun and energetic. Along with a cool professor the views of the Pacific Ocean from the school are incredible and opportunities for traveling and exploring the local areas are endless. So much to do and time flies by super fast. Overall, a great experience and one worth having!
